Women’s premier grade cricket returns this weekend and Valley’s will seek to improve on their record in both One Day and T20 formats.

The 1st grade side will be led by Australian Women’s Indigenous player Christina Coulson who will be joined by Queensland Fire/Brisbane Heat players, Georgia Prestwidge, Mikayla Hinkley and young gun Charli Knott.

Young new recruitments to the club Elise Hart (keeper-bat) and Lucinda Bourke (all-rounder) bring further strength to the side.

Adding to the list of new signings is head coach Rob Smith who brings with him years of experience, having coached the American Women’s National team and having played 1st Class cricket himself.

There is a great amount of depth at the club this year with plenty of young girls developing their skills at a rapid rate. Smith spoke highly of the positive impact the representative players have had on the program.

“The four girls are all of wonderful character and do all they can to help the girls across the program, I feel that they are a real asset to the club”.

When asked about how the playing group has adapted to having a new coach and what he brings to the club, Coulson was quick to offer praise.

“Rob has played and coached at an elite level, so he brings some great experience into the role as well as an unparalleled energy of excitement but also calmness which I think has helped the group improve already”.

After finishing last season around the middle of the ladder in both formats, Coulson expects 100% effort on and off the field and having retained their core players, believes the key this year will be consistency.

On Sunday the girls will be making the drive up the coast for their opening One Day match of the season and will play their first home game the following weekend.
